Relaxing

While Norfolk has a lot to offer, it can be tempting to simply kick back and relax at Lanthorn Cottage itself far from the madding crowd and bustle of everyday life. We highly recommend it, and the only question is, how will you relax?

Will you sit on the bench drinking in the sounds of nature? Or perhaps curl up with a good book in the summer house on a sunny day or warm night? Maybe just experience the dark skies of Norfolk and see stars like you’ve never seen before!

Norfolk is a walker's delight! From our front door you can stroll across the fields or down quiet lanes to the coast. Or for a gentle stroll, visit one of the many stately homes and ramble at your own pace.

For the more adventurous and energetic though numerous public footpaths are close at hand. Why not take a day to enjoy one of the longer and well-maintained trails to experience the real Norfolk, Maybe even encounter some of its more hidden charms along the Weaver's Way?

A variety of beaches can be found close to Lanthorn Cottage. From Happisburgh’s quiet sandy shores, down to nearby Sea Palling for the classic English seaside experience. Further afield charming Cromer offers beaches, a pier and endless quirky shops and cafes along with a handy tourist information centre too!

Alternatively, Great Yarmouth offers slides, rides, and shows aplenty and is still surprisingly affordable to visit: fun for all the family. Personally, we love to visit Gorleston-on-Sea for a coastal view that’s hard to beat!

Winter

Did you know that off-season is one of the best times to visit Norfolk, if you’re looking for peace and quiet, or simply to experience nature in the raw. Yes, visiting Lanthorn Cottage and Norfolk in the winter can be a spell-binding experience, just remember to pack your wet-weather gear just in case!

Seals arrive annually at Horsey Gap to birth their next generation in their thousands. Migrating Pink Footed Geese love Norfolk too, and can be found making their winter holiday homes along the salt marshes of the northern coasts. Even if you’re not an animal lover,  lingering in a cosy beachside café, looking out across the sea as the year takes its turn can be spellbinding and relaxing in equal measure. You might even find time to take a day trip to the famous Thursford Christmas Spectacular. It’s a whole different side of Norfolk to enjoy!
